Why we invested
AV Ventures invested in Agro Innova through a blended finance structure that combined growth capital with technical assistance. The goal of the investment was to enable the company to scale its suite of digital agriculture solutions, which include the FBS Innova farm management platform and AkokoMarket, an online marketplace for poultry farmers. Across Ghana, smallholder farmers often struggle to access timely market information, reliable buyers, and quality agricultural inputs. These challenges are particularly acute for women and young farmers, who face additional barriers to finance and market entry.
Agro Innova’s technology addresses these challenges by providing tools for farm recordkeeping, market access, and product traceability. These innovations improve farm profitability, reduce post-harvest losses, and create more transparent supply chains. The investment is consistent with AV Ventures Ghana Fund’s mission to back agritech ventures that strengthen smallholder resilience, enhance value chain efficiency, and promote inclusive growth. Within the fund’s portfolio, Agro Innova plays a complementary role to regenerative agriculture enterprises such as WARC, ensuring that data-driven management and market integration work hand in hand with sustainable farming practices to deliver long-term agricultural transformation.
